Taxidermy Workshop
January 20, 2018 10:00 AM - January 21, 2018 5:00 PM
Award-winning taxidermist, Divya Anantharaman will be leading two, one-day workshops at MOCA Tucson January 20 and 21!
Participants will get hands-on experience working with their choice of rat or starling, with unlimited assistance from Divya. With her expert knowledge, Divya will provide a history of taxidermy and walk participants through all the steps of creating their own mount. From raw specimen to the final preserved piece, participants will walk away with a fully finished mount and the skills to create their own taxidermy long after the workshop has ended.
Saturday, January 20: Rat workshop This class will teach anthropomorphic taxidermy, a practice where animals are posed as if engaged in human activities. The workshop includes initial preparation, hygiene and sanitary measuring, fleshing, tail stripping, and dry preservation. Participants will have the ability to pose and outfit their rats as desired. Feel free to bring your own accessories! ($160, 10 AM – 5 PM)
Sunday, January 21: Starling Workshop This class includes proper skinning, fleshing, degreasing/washing, and the grooming of feathers, with special attention being paid to fitting forms, hidden stitches, and how to arrange feather patterns. Due to the delicacy of bird skin, it is recommended that students have some taxidermy experience and/or patience. ($275, 10 AM – 5 PM)
Please note that all animals are ethically sourced.
