PUBLIC OPENING: MAGMA & PEARLS

Friday, October 20, 2023
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Join us to celebrate the opening of MOCA’s new exhibition, Keioui Keijaun Thomas: Magma & Pearls with food by Brujería Pupusería, drinks, and performance!

8pm – Artist performance: Keioui Keijaun Thomas initiates her exhibition with Come Hell or High Femmes, an immersive multimedia performance charting the post-apocalyptic geography of Magma & Pearls. Thomas imagines a lush and verdant world inhabited by surviving “dolls”—trans femmes so flawless they are no longer considered real. Through forms of camouflage and metamorphosis, the artist reclaims what it means to be Black and queer in nature, forging new ways to exist in relation to the American landscape.

9pmMagma & Pearls afterparty at Splinter Collective: continue the celebration with exhibition project partner Splinter Collective with DJs, poetry performances, and dancing.
Splinter Collective is located at 901 N 13th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705
