About the exhibitions
Only in Darkness Can You See the Stars is an exhibition dedicated to the artist Coco Fusco, whose journey through the arts is situated in her roots as a Cuban-American visual artist, writer, and public intellectual. Fusco’s work combines performance, photography, film, and archival materials to force the contradictions of colonial histories out into the dominant narrative. The exhibition gathers works that represent over three decades of research which make visible the mechanisms of violence through various modes of representation and labor.
After Heaven is a solo exhibition by artist Clifford Prince King that features a new series of photographs, a photo-installation, and a video work. In his photographs, King captures subtle, everyday moments that brim with connection, tenderness, and care and in After Heaven, the artist directs his focus to family, place, and landscape in Tucson, where he grew up, and nearby Sahuarita on his family’s ranch. With photographs of family members and self-portraits around the ranch and in the surrounding desert landscape, King traces his experience of return, made over the course of seven years during visits home.
