Free Third Thursday

March 21, 2024
5:00 - 9:00 PM

Join us for a free evening at MOCA with galleries open late, live music by KXCI Community Radio, food by Under Pressure Grill, and drinks! Don’t miss this lively time to gather with friends and family around art, music, and drinks; all ages are welcome!

At 6pm join us for a guided exhibition tour and conversation of Fay Ray: PORTALS with exhibition curator Laura Copelin and artist Yu Yu Shiratori.

About:

Yu Yu Shiratori (b. 1988, Los Angeles, CA) is a Japanese American artist who lives and works in Tucson, AZ. Shiratori’s work spans from textiles, sculptural works to jewelry design. She explores the realities and ideas around the immigrant diaspora, and the enduring spirit of intergenerational resistance. Her work often draws references from personal experiences, Eastern philosophy, and the natural world. She was a recent recipient of the Arizona Commission on the Arts Opportunity Grant (2023) for her first solo installation exhibit, Slow Bloom, at Snakebite Creation Space in Tucson, AZ, which was highlighted by Southwest Contemporary.

About the Exhibitions:

On view in the Great Hall is Fay Ray: PORTALS, the first solo museum exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Fay Ray featuring large-scale hanging sculptures and seven new site-specific commissions. On view in the East Wing Galleries is Between gravity and ground an exhibition featuring glass and textile based works by artists Sara Hubbs and Sarah Zapata that are informed by personal and familial histories; and SIN AGUA a video and sound installation by artist Sofía Córdova that layers research and personal narrative catalyzed by the artist’s inquiry into water—its presence, absence, and significance—in Arizona’s arid landscape and in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Third Thursdays are presented in collaboration with KXCI Community Radio.
