Circa 1980: NYC, Artists, Community

August 8, 2021 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Panel featuring artist Olivier Mosset; artist and model Kitty Brophy; writer, director, and University of Arizona professor Lisanne Skyler; silversmith Alex Streeter; and film producer, writer, and director Danny Vinik.

Moderated by Kate Green, MOCA Tucson Executive Director

In association with MOCA Tucson’s current exhibition The Things We Keep: Selections from Olivier Mosset’s Archive, this program explores an influential artistic place and moment–New York City circa 1980–through those who were part of it. Alongside some of the best-known artists of the time, including Jean Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Andy Warhol, panelists were involved in a legendary cable access show TV Party, a streetside fashion show-cum-boxing match, and the infamous Times Square Show art exhibition. Join in this freewheeling examination of a creative community at the intersection of art, music, performance, fashion, and club scenes!
