Unpacking Personal History at Armory Park Senior Center

Unpacking Personal History at Armory Park Senior Center

September 26, 2019 10:00 PM - November 21, 2019 12:00 PM

MOCA Tucson invites members of our 55+ community to explore their own personal histories through visual art and storytelling at the Armory Park Senior Center.

We will look at the work of contemporary artist Mohamad Hafez who uses suitcases to create and share meaningful narratives as they relate to our current and past socio-political climates. Participants will choose a suitcase provided by facilitators to create scenes from their lives that will serve as the setting to share their stories and memories. These can include objects and images from the participants lived experiences. Narrative is also an important component of this workshop and activities will include interviews and creative writing. Through either a live presentation or a recorded sound piece, these workshops will culminate in a showcase where participants will narrate their stories, with the suitcase as the center piece. We are also collaborating with local radio station, KXCi, to share participant stories.

This program is free. MOCA Tucson provides art supplies and passes for public transportation.
