Opening Reception: Terra Forms
December 3, 2021 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Terra Forms features artwork by Jacqueline Arias, Pablo Cruz, Drew Grella, Chelsy Mata, Charlotte Rose Ruth, Perla Segovia, Jandey Shackelford, and Sydney Yount. Terra Forms is organized by Kelly Franck, Sonya Landau, and Jacob Niemiec.
Join us to celebrate the opening reception of Terra Forms at the University of Arizona’s Joseph Gross Gallery, a student-led exhibition in conversation with were-:Nenetech Forms, currently on view at MOCA Tucson. Terra Forms presents new works by a cohort of University of Arizona student-collaborators, developed with artists rafa esparza and Timo Fahler.
Students spent half of the semester working with esparza and Fahler on the production of adobe bricks and installation while simultaneously having discussions about the borderlands, biomimicry, and collectivity. For the installation at the Joseph Gross Gallery, the group decided together to cover the entire gallery floor in a layer of adobe. This intervention provides a ground for the students’ own artistic contributions in Terra Forms, which range in media from sculpture to photography, installation, painting, VR, and textiles.
Special thanks to the visiting guest curators who participated in conversations with the students: Laura Copelin, Meg Jackson Fox, Erin Joyce, Julio César Morales, and Alexis Wilkinson.
The opening reception will take place at the Joseph Gross Gallery at the University of Arizona, 1031 N Olive Rd, Tucson, AZ 85721.
