About the Curator-in-Residence Program
The Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson (MOCA Tucson) is pleased to announce our 2020 Curatorial Residency for Spring of 2020. This three-month residency will provide time, space, and access to resources for curators to develop an exhibition, conduct research, and engage with MOCA Tucson’s artists-in-residence. The selected curator will facilitate programming, dialogues, and an exhibition that activates the local community, resonates within a global contemporary art context, and challenges audiences. Curators at any stage of their career are welcome to apply.
One selected curator will develop and expand the scope of their practice through the production of an exhibition in MOCA’s Great Hall (6,000 sq. ft.). The Curator-in-Residence will have 24/7 access to the exhibition space, living quarters, an office space with Wi-Fi and a communal kitchen. The Curator-in-Residence will also receive administrative and production support from MOCA Tucson staff and a $10,000 stipend to produce an exhibition at MOCA. Partners, children, and pups are all welcome to live with selected curator. (Note: travel to/from the residency is the responsibility of the curator).
Expectations of the Curator-in-Residence
- Develop an exhibition for The Great Hall of MOCA Tucson to run from July-September 2020
- Provide content (e.g. checklist, introduction) for catalogues, brochures, press releases, and all related publicity material, as well as didactic text for exhibitions
- Suggest and assist with selecting speakers for guest lectures or programs
- Live/Work at MOCA Tucson for up to three months developing and executing exhibition and related programming
- Oversee the planning, budgeting and installation of the exhibition in collaboration with MOCA Tucson staff
- Work within MOCA Tucson’s mission while bringing a unique curatorial vision to the museum
- Conduct studio visits with MOCA Tucson artists-in-residence
Qualifications
- Must have at least two years’ curatorial experience outside of an academic program and awareness of contemporary arts issues, practices, and artists
- Ability to manage exhibition budgets and meet deadlines
- All applicants must be able to work in the United States and be 18 years or older
