Join 2018 MOCA Local Genius Dr. Carol Barnes as she discusses changes in memory occurring during the normal process of aging. More severe memory impairment is characteristic of dementing illnesses that occur in some older individuals. Ideas about the aging brain have evolved away from it being viewed as an organ of passive deterioration towards the realization that it is capable of remarkable adaptation. The lecture will discuss how memory is changed during normal aging, as distinguished from pathological conditions, some of the brain changes responsible for these cognitive changes, and some of the current thinking about how to optimize brain and mental functions throughout life.
